Arbitration Interest Calculator – Section 31(7)
Arbitration Interest Calculator
Section 31(7) – Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996
🧮 Calculation Example
Suppose the principal amount is ₹10,00,000, pre-award interest rate is 12% p.a., pre-award period is 365 days, post-award rate is 10% p.a., and post-award period is 180 days.
Post-Award Interest = ₹10,00,000 × 10 × 180 ÷ 36,500 ≈ ₹49,315.07
Total Interest = ₹1,20,000 + ₹49,315.07 = ₹1,69,315.07
Total Amount = ₹10,00,000 + ₹1,69,315.07 = ₹11,69,315.07
Note: The actual number of days is calculated automatically by the calculator from the dates entered by the user.
Pre-Award Interest:
Section 31(7)(a) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 deals with interest for the relevant period prior to the date of the arbitral award, subject to the terms of the agreement and applicable circumstances.
Post-Award Interest:
Section 31(7)(b) provides for interest from the date of the award to the date of payment, subject to what is provided in the award and the statutory mechanism contained in that provision.
Calculation Method Used:
This calculator uses simple interest:
Interest = Principal × Annual Rate × Number of Days ÷ 36,500
The calculator does not automatically compound interest.
